“Bill Clinton,” “George H.W. Bush,” “Margaret Thatcher”and “Saddam Hussein”are now video game superstars, at least to a new generation of gamers looking for footage from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. The trailer, just released, shows zero footage, but is instead a live-action mood piece that features the former world leaders. “If it’s the truth you seek,” a line from the trailer’s description reads, “look in the dark.”
Hussein, the former president of Iraq who was sentenced to death by hanging, does not enjoy the distinction of being the first real-life political leader to appear in a Call of Duty Black Ops game. Manuel Noriega, the former dictator of Panama, was featured in Black Ops II. Noriega, by the way, unsuccessfully sued Activision over his appearance in the game.
Black Ops 6 is in the works at Raven Software and Treyarch and according to multiple reports, will be released in October. Multiple reports also say it will launch day one on Game Pass. Activision and Microsoft will further showcase Black Ops 6 on June 9 as part of a special broadcast dedicated entirely to the next entry in the FPS series.
