If you think The Sphere in Las Vegas is wild, well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet! UFC‘s Dana White confirmed the promotion will be putting on a major event in the Sphere in honor of Mexican Independence Day.
The UFC‘s longtime head honcho told reporters Saturday night UFC has booked the Sphere for September 14, 2024, and will host a fight card honoring Mexican Independence Weekend. The holiday officially happens on September 16th.
The Sphere, a $2.3 billion venue created by (and owned by) Madison Square Garden, opened September 29th and can hold more than 18,000 people. The idea of a combat sports event in the Sphere has been an admitted passion, even obsession, of White’s, as the venue has giant video walls stretching high above the stage. and the exterior can boast about its 6K, 160,000-square-foot LED screen.
“It’s going to be a massive challenge, and I love every minute of it,” White said Saturday following UFC 295. “I can’t wait to dive into this thing.”
White promised the event at the Sphere will be “the greatest live combat sports show anybody has ever seen.”
“Everybody keeps saying to me, I don’t understand how you’re going to put the Octagon in there, I don’t understand how you’re going to do this, I don’t understand how you’re going to do that,“ White said. “Remember that I said this to you tonight.”
And so, the countdown officially begins!
