Costa Rica and Germany faced off in their third matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup at Al Bayt Stadium. In the 10th minute, Germany would take a 1-0 lead over Costa Rica thanks to Serge Gnabry’s well-placed header. After the goal, Germany would control possession for 72% of the first half. Yeltsin Tejeda took matters into his own hands and scored a goal to even the score 1-1. In the 70th minute, Juan Pablo Vargas gave Costa Rica a 2-1 lead. However just three minutes later, Kai Havertz found the back of the net to make it 2-2 for Germany. Kai Havertz would go on to score again in the 84th minute, followed by Niclas Füllkrug in the 89 + 1.
