On April 13th, 1997, Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) presented its very first pay-per-view, entitled “Barely Legal.” ECW World Heavyweight Champion Raven would defend the title against the winner of a 3-Way Dance: “The Hardcore Legend” Terry Funk vs the “Beer-Drinking, Cane-Swinging, Bar Room Brawler” The Sandman vs the young upstart, Big Stevie Cool.
In the final ECW television broadcast leading into this groundbreaking barrier-smashing PPV offering, Terry Funk closed the show with an emotional visit to his father’s grave site and made an EXTREME vow.
