In The First of Our Exclusive Ten Part Series, We Examine The Benefits of Allowing This Rose To Blossom as The Hollywood Bad Boy's Sitcom is About To Get a Serious Pickup By FX Network!
Following his appearance on WWE MONDAY NIGHT RAW EPISODE 1000, Hollywood's wildest wild child Charlie Sheen is the beneficiary of what appears to be very good news. According to FX Network President John Landgraf, the odds are "overwhelming" that FX will purchase an additional 90 episodes of Charlie's new comedy “Anger Management"
That deserves a #HolyShit chant!
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, the FX President said that episodes three through six of the show had exceeded a predefined ratings threshold that would require the network to purchase the additional episodes. The first two episodes, which had drawn relatively big audiences, weren’t even used in the formula. Can we get another #HolyShit chant, please?
There are still four more episodes that will be used in the final calculation, however. the network big whig said, and a final decision won’t be made until all 10 episodes have aired.
A mere formality, we might add.
A renewal order would be a major coup for the show’s producer, Lions Gate Entertainment, and a remarkable comeback for Mr. Sheen. The HOOKER LOVING bad boy was fired from the highly-rated CBS comedy “Two and a Half Men” early last year after publicly lashing out at the network, Warner Bros., the show’s producer and its co-creator Chuck Lorre. Some networks refused to have meetings with WILD MAN CHARLIE last year when “Anger Management” was being pitched.
Moreover, a 90-episode order is highly unusual in television, where networks typically commit to just one season of a show at a time, usually around 22 episodes in broadcast television or even fewer in cable. If FX goes ahead with the order, it plans to air the all the episodes by the fall of 2014, virtually once a week. That will require Lions Gate to produce the shows at an unusually fast pace, although it will allow the company to sell the show into the lucrative rerun syndication market faster.
FX also announced that Martin Sheen, Charlie’s father, would become a regular on “Anger Management” if the network buys the additional 90 episodes. Besides legendary roles in such movies as "Apocalypse Now" and "The Departed," as well as the new "Amazing Spider-Man" movie, Martin Sheen had a huge turn as the President in Aaron Sorkin's TV series "The West Wing."
